MMDA sends rescue team to Nueva Ecija
MANILA – A rescue team of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was sent to Jaen, Nueva Ecija to assist in the rescue and relief operations in areas affected by Typhoon Santi.
The 17-man team, composed of members of the Metro Parkway Clearing Group (MPCG) and Road Emergency Group, was deployed on Saturday to help clear roads and distribute relief goods.
"MMDA is willing to help those in need. We will send rescue teams to places severely damaged by the typhoon if and when necessary,” MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said.
Three of the 5 killed due to the onslaught of the typhoon were from Nueva Ecija, who were all killed by trees toppled by the strong winds.
The entire province of Nueva Ecija is considering the declaration of state of calamity.
"Tumawag na din ako sa vice governor ko at saka sa Sangguniang, magde-deklara kami ng state of calamity sa probinsiya," said Nueva Ecija Governor Aurelio Umali.
Umali said their main problem is clearing the major thoroughfares of uprooted trees and fallen electric posts.
