Not guilty plea for 2 Davantes slay suspects
MANILA – A local trial court on Thursday entered a not guilty plea for two suspects in the killing of advertising executive Kristelle "Kae" Davantes.
The Las Piñas Regional Trial Court Branch 253 entered a not guilty plea for suspects Regie Diel and Lloyd Enriquez who were earlier charged with qualified carnapping and robbery with homicide.
According to Atty. Mark Estepa, Department of Justice senior assistant prosecutor, Diel and Enriquez admitted to robbing Davantes, but denied killing the victim. Thus, the two entered a "qualified plea" which prompted the court to enter a not guilty plea for them.
"They entered qualified plea. Umaamin sila sa pagnanakaw pero hindi nila inaamin ang pagpatay. If a suspect enters a qualified plea, the court enters a plea of not guilty for him," Estepa said.
Estepa said the arraignment of the three other suspects – Jomar Pepito, Samuel Decimo, Kelvin Jorek Evangelista – will be done at a later date after the National Bureau of Investigation and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed a supplemental complaint against them.
A sixth suspect, Baser Minalang, remains at large.
"Nag-file ng supplemental complaint ang NBI at CIDG and based on that nag-issue kami ng joint resolution and we found probable cause against the 4 accused so kaya kami nag-file ng amended information sa court today," he said.
"With respect to other accused, we likewise moved that the appropriate commitment order be issued to them, so that they can be brought to the court
Estepa said the court has set the pre-trial of the case to November 7.
