Erap gets authority to apologize for HK hostage crisis
MANILA - The City Council of Manila has passed a resolution granting authority to Mayor Joseph Estrada to represent the city to personally deliver an apology to Hong Kong for the Quirino Grandstand hostage crisis in 2010.
The city government said they aim to put a closure on the incident so that both Philippines and Hong Kong can finally reconcile.
President Benigno Aquino III earlier said he will not apologize to the Hong Kong government.
The bus hostage crisis led to the death of eight Hong Kong tourists.
Malacanang declined to comment on the resolution.
