MANILA -  Police on Friday are investigating the alleged hazing death of an 18-year-old teenager in Silang, Cavite Thursday.

Police said 18-year-old "John" was brought to Estrella Hospital by three men at around 4 p.m. Thursday in an effort to save his life. Doctors, however, declared John dead on arrival.

One of John's companions left the hospital before he could be interviewed. The two men, Joel Bandalam and Carlos Paulo Bartolome, said they were about to go swimming when John collapsed.

Superintendent Danilo Buentipo said bruises on John's thighs confirmed that the teenager had undergone hazing rites. He said John and the two others are members of the Tau Gamma fraternity.

The hazing death is the second to be recorded in Cavite this month. Last October 13, police arrested 10 members of the Scout Royal Brotherhood after their new recruit died after a hazing session in Alfonso town, Cavite.

Inspector Christopher Olaso, Alfonso town police chief, said Elvis Sinalua, 21, died due to severe hazing wounds in his thighs and body.

Olaso said three SRB members have been arrested and 8 others, including a minor, have surrendered to authorities. He said another recruit identified as Criseno Ligaya was in critical condition at the UMG Hospital in the province.

Police were still hunting down 5 more SRB members identified only through their aliases NIkay, RJ, Dominic, Black and Snow, who are residents of Alfonso and Indang towns.

Olaso said charges for violation of the Anti-Hazing Law are being readied against the frat members.
