MANILA – Seventy people who died during the onslaught of tropical cyclone Ondoy were laid to rest at the Bagbag Public Cemetery in Quezon City.

Rene Mamaclay, head of the public cemetery's management, said an entire apartment niche was provided for the victims who died during the storm.

Of the 70 who perished, four were unidentified. Two of the bodies were recovered in Talayan Village and the other two were found in Sitio Pagyon at the back of a mall in Barangay Commonwealth.

Mamaclay said they buried the four unclaimed bodies because they were already in the decomposition stage.

He urged families still looking for their kin to present a certification and clearance from the City Hall and health department so that they will be allowed to exhume the bodies for identification.

The local government of Quezon City shouldered the cost of the burial to help families affected by the typhoon, he said.

Meanwhile, Mamaclay reminded the public to refrain from bringing in alcohol and bladed weapons in cemeteries when they visit the graves of their departed loved ones.
