Erap casts vote in fire-hit school
MANILA - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada cast his vote at Padre Burgos Elementary School in Santa Mesa, Manila, the same school that was hit by fire on Sunday.
Estrada arrived at the school past 11 a.m., accompanied by his close-in security. He voted in the 3rd floor of the main building.
He is one of the 19,400 voters in 62 precincts here in Santa Mesa, Manila.
A total of 2,200 voters will be transferred from their original room or assigned precinct to the school gym and another building after 4 classrooms caught fire at the school around 10 p.m.
Investigators said faulty wiring might have caused the blaze.
At first, Mayor Estrada thought the fire was a deliberate attempt to sabotage voting but some authorities said that it would be unlikely since voting will still push through and just be transferred to other precincts.
Estrada congratulated the Manila Police District, saying the conduct of barangay elections in Manila remains peaceful.
