Alleged drug informant shot dead in Binondo
MANILA, Philippines – An alleged drug informant was shot dead in Binondo, Manila on Tuesday morning.
A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed an unidentified man shooting victim Almira Pastor Reyes at point-blank range at around 7 a.m. in Barangay 272, Zone 25.
There were several residents who witnessed the shooting, but it was only Reyes's sibling who ran after the suspect, who fled on foot.
The witnesses did not run after the fleeing gunman who was still armed.
"Yung kriminal naka-doble ng suot. Nung aanuhin niya na yung babae, hinubad niya yung suot at yung baril na nasa bag kinuha niya tapos binalot ng damit na hinubad. Nung nakita niyang nakatayo na yung babae, nilapitan niya [at binaril]," said Barangay 272 secretary Rebecca Maricris Gonzales.
Gonzales said the suspect was also seen walking around the area the day before the shooting.
Police are looking into Reyes's involvement in anti-illegal drug operations, money lending business, and relationship with a retired policeman as among the possible motives behind the shooting.
Reyes' family, meanwhile, also noted that the shooting was the fourth to occur in the area.
Reyes is survived by her three children. – report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
