MANILA, Philippines – Visitors at the Manila North Cemetery for All Saints’ Day have breached the 1 million mark, authorities said.

As of 2 p.m., Manila Police District (MPD) said visitors have reached an estimated 1,100,000.

Police said around 200 individuals are entering the cemetery’s gates every minute, prompting management to open 3 gates of the cemetery.

More than 200 policemen are on patrol at the premises to ensure the safety of the visitors.

But because of the warm weather and large crowds, at least 17 people had to receive medical assistance.

Authorities said the number of visitors continue to trickle in and may reach 1.5 million before the end of the day.

Meanwhile, police have arrested 42 persons inside the cemetery, 22 of whom were caught drinking alcohol, 5 were caught with illegal drugs,  7 were caught gambling while 8 more were involved in a brawl. -- Reports from Noel Alamar and Henry Atuelan, dzMM; Jeff Canoy, ABS-CBN News
