Thousands stranded at Manila domestic airport
MANILA, Philippines - Thousand of passengers of budget airline Zest Air were stranded at the old Manila Domestic Airport as its flights were delayed for more than 10 hours.
Journalist Lea Ylagan was among the stranded Zest Air passengers.
Ylagan, who is heading to Cebu to celebrate her birthday, was disappointed when a ground staff of Zest Airline made an announcement that their 5 p.m. flight was rescheduled to 7 p.m. November 1.
Around 30 minutes before their rescheduled flight, another announcement was made. This time, their flight was being rescheduled again to 1:20 a.m. on November 2.
Some of the passengers said the airline did not give an explanation and did not give them either meals or accommodations.
Video footage taken by Ylagan shows a female passenger suffering dizziness while inside the airport filled with thousands of stranded passengers.
She said that ground staff of ZestAir abandoned their post and even the "Oplan Undas" staff of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) were nowhere to be seen.
Two other destinations, Davao and Iloilo, were affected by delayed flights.
It was not clear as why MIAA officials did not inform either the public or media regarding the delay.
Zest Air has yet to issue a statement on the issue. - Report from Raoul Esperas
