DILG staff accused of punching MMDA traffic aide
MANILA, Philippines – An employee of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is in hot water for allegedly punching a traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Marvin Vinluan, a DILG operations officer for Region 4-A, allegedly punched MMDA traffic aide Jonard Jeramil in the head after he was apprehended for jaywalking along España Boulevard in Manila on Monday.
Authorities said Vinluan had already boarded a commuter van when Jeramil asked him to get off the vehicle to inform him of his violation.
The two then got into a heated argument, which resulted in the attack.
Authorities said the incident was captured on a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the area.
DILG Secretary Mar Roxas said he has already recommended administrative charges against Vinluan.
Last August, a direct assault charge was filed against motorist Robert Carabuena over a punching incident also involving an MMDA traffic enforcer.
Carabuena was eventually stripped of his driver’s license and gun permit because of the incident. -- Report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
