Three suspected hold-uppers were arrested Monday night after a deadly jeepney heist in Manila, which left an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) dead.

Police identified the suspects as Joel Azarcon, an alias Teteng and a certain Arnel. The three were arrested from Barangay 123 in the notorious district of Tondo.

Police Officer 3 Jay Santos, Manila police homicide investigator, said the suspects held-up a jeepney passenger at Road 10 in Tondo around 8 p.m.

Santos said NBI agent Gil Yanes, who was among the jeepney passengers, tried to prevent the hold-up, but the suspects stabbed him and shot him with his own service firearm.

"Nag-declare ang tatlong holdaper sa passenger jeep. Nag-react ang agent natin pero pinagtulungan siya ng tatlo na saksakin at bugbugin," the police investigator said.

Santos said they were still gathering more evidence to pin the three suspects to the crime. -- Report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News
