MANILA, Philippines - Warning: Bomb jokes remain strictly prohibited inside airports.

A Filipina learned this the hard way after she was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 for telling airport screeners that she was carrying a bomb in her luggage.

Screener Lubis Tarcilla said passenger Zenaida Sangalang of Santa Rita, Batangas joked several times that she was carrying a bomb. The suspect was immediately detained and placed under investigation by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group as part of the airport's standard operations procedure.

Sangalang was set to board a Royal Dutch Airline KLM Flight 804 to Italy via Amsterdam. She said she was unaware that joking about explosives inside the airport was against the law.

Col. Manny Pintado said Sangalang's daughter will be allowed to board her flight.

Sangalang will be charged with violating  Presidential Decree 1727, which penalizes all persons who issue false bomb threats.

What?? Who are they fooling?

Chavit Singson's son went through the same airport with cocaine, escorted I presume - with jokes galore; The Philippines had been put in the US State Department watchlist for human trafficking with the same airport security/customs/immigration officials who could only be described as facilitators of human trafficking. It is such a joke that the only law those airport clowns could properly implement is one that makes a criminal out of an OFW housewife.

Get some perspective peeps, it is such a third world joke!

No excuse!

Frankly, appearance is beside the point when it comes to airport security. There is no standard image of a terrorist is. There might be a commonality but never an identical profile. To assume such is being ignorant.

To say that the airport security inflicted trauma to the girl, don't you think it is the mother's fault that they had to endure such an embarassing situation? I am pretty sure they were not dragged to the security office screaming. If this happened then, it is the airport officials' fault.

Besides, this regulation is being observed around the world for years already. This is not an issue of being happy or the lack of a funny bone or the absence of compassion. We have to remember that terrorism is not a laughing matter and should not be taken lightly.

If they have just followed the process, they would not have been arrested. Quite simple actually...

I see

A realistic judgment call would have been to impose a hefty fine for the extra manhours that would have been involved in thoroughly checking her luggage because of her 'bomb' joke. She should not have been detained.

Facts:

1. There is no evidence that terrorists even crack jokes.

2. No terrorist have been caught as a result of a "bomb" joke.

What they should watch out for are the weak links inside the airport itself. Those who would let anything through if paid the right price. Believe me, if you knew how NAIA operates, you would know that there are a lot of weak links inside who not only crack 'bomb' jokes but also laugh all the way to the bank.

Bomb jokes = bomb threats?

You won't find a terrorist cracking jokes, or would you? If you carry the joke too far, like any other joke, it could be harmful. Pero how can you charge someone who is obviously an OFW - ang mga "Bagong Bayani" of making a bomb threat? Isang tingin ko lang dun sa ale e, mukhang mas terrorist pa 'yung airport security.

Ginaya ng NAIA from Homeland Security sa US at ni-legislate pa, kaya syempre OA. Walang palulusutin, maski lola.

Pwe!
