Police official's son killed in shootout with cops
A police official's son was killed and his three friends, including another policeman, were arrested after allegedly starting a brawl inside a bar in Quezon City on Tuesday night.
Superintendent Alex Sintin, Quezon City Police District Station 3 commander, identified the fatality as Jay Valencia, son of Superintendent Jose Valencia, chief of the Caloocan City Police's investigation division.
Arrested were Valencia's friends, Police Officer 2 Eugene Amaro, Erick dela Cruz and Erick Elejer.
Sinsin said the police station received a report that four armed men fired their guns inside Padi's Point bar along Quirino Highway in Novaliches during a brawl.
He said Valencia's group was fleeing on board a Honda Civic when they were intercepted by the police station's roving personnel along the highway in Barangay Baesa.
Valencia was fatally wounded during a shootout with the policemen. The pursuing cops said Valencia's group fired at them first.
Ed Bautista, a bar customer, said Valencia's group was forcing her cousin's wife to dance with one of them. He said the suspects started a brawl and fired their guns when he tried to take her cousin's wife from them.
Several witnesses, meanwhile, said the Honda Civic of Valencia's group rammed into two other vehicles while driving away from the bar.
Seized from the Honda Civic was a .45 pistol and Amaro's 9mm service firearm.
Charges are being readied against Valencia's buddies. Amaro is also facing an administrative case and a possible dismissal from the service. -- Report from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News
