MANILA - At least 4,000 policemen will be deployed to secure 1,000 delegates to the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress 2009 in Manila.

"This international event is another opportunity for our country to shine and open our doors to the international community," Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Jesus Verzosa said in a statement.

Verzosa has formed a task force to be headed by the PNP's deputy chief for operations, the second highest position in the police organization, to implement the security preparations for the EAST Congress 2009, which will be attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 11 countries.

The event will be held November 23 to November 27 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The police chief said the task force is composed of 4,298 members spread to 12 sub-task groups for area, security, close-in VIP security, route security and traffic management, mobile escort, emergency medical service, communications, intelligence, investigation, airport security and seaborne patrol.
