Anti-terrorism operatives may have foiled a possible bomb attack in Metro Manila after arresting two suspected members of terror group Abu Sayyaf in Taguig City on Friday.
Justice Undersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor, spokesman of the government's Anti-Terrorism Council, said intelligence operatives arrested Sala Kasan Bairulla and his son, Albasher Bairulla from their safehouse in Taguig City.
A Philippine Star report quoting Blancaflor said a complete improvised explosive device, a .38 revolver, and a hand grenade were seized from the suspects' possession.
Blancaflor said the bomb could have been intended for Metro Manila. He said the bomb may "cause severe damage."
The suspects have been brought to the Philippine National Police's headquarters, Camp Crame, in Quezon City.
The arrest came weeks before the anniversary of the bloody Rizal Day bombings, where five bombs successively exploded around Metro Manila and killed at least a dozen.
