Foreigner stabbed dead in Bel-Air
MANILA, Philippines – A foreign national, identified as George Anikow, was killed by 4 suspects near Rockwell, Makati early Saturday, police said.
Makati Police chief Sr. Supt. Manuel Lucban said the incident took place at around 4 a.m. in front of the gate of Bel-Air Subdivision.
Investigations showed that the security guard of the subdivision was checking the identities of 4 passengers of a Volvo entering the gate, when Anikow, a resident of Bel-Air, approached the car and assisted the guard in checking their identities.
Anikow allegedly had an argument with the passengers and tapped the vehicle.
The passengers then stepped down from the vehicle and mauled Anikow.
The guard tried to stop the 4 men but he was eventually overpowered.
One of the passengers allegedly stabbed Anikow in his back and shoulder.
Anikow was rushed to the Makati Medical Center but died around 7 a.m.
The suspects were immediately blocked by police and the village guards after they responded to the incident.
Lucban withheld information on the identities of the suspects, but said that one of them is a resident of the village beside Bel-Air, and was trying to go through Bel-Air as a shortcut.
He added that 3 of the suspects are businessmen, while one is a student. They are aged between 20 to 27 years old.
Lucban said he has received a call from the US embassy, but he did not get confirmation if Anikow was indeed a US citizen.
The suspects, meanwhile, were brought to the SOCO office for processing and drug tests, but according to SOCO operatives, the lawyer of the four men refused to have them undergo testing.
Police have already seen the footage from closed circuit television cameras, however, they have to formally request for a copy through their legal officers to use it as evidence.
Police are still gathering other pieces of evidence, including testimonies from witnesses.
Lucban said they may file homicide or murder charges Saturday morning in the fiscal's office.
The lawyer of the suspects, Atty. Jacinto Ende, refused to give any comment on the incident and asked the media not to take footage of his clients.
