Two cabbies were killed by taxi robbers in separate incidents in Quezon City and Valenzuela City, police said Friday.
Superintendent Nestorio Dioso, Valenzuela City police deputy chief, said 50-year-old taxi driver Rudy Cuenca of Rodriguez, Rizal, died of six stab wounds in the chest and nape.
Dioso said Cuenca's killer left him inside his Merjun taxi with plate number PWV 738, parked inside the St. Jude Subdivision in Malinta, Valenzuela City around 10 p.m.
Dioso said bystanders told police investigators that the killer called them to help him push the taxi, which was stuck in an open canal.
He said the killer ran after one of the bystanders noticed Cuenca's bloodied body.
Meanwhile, another driver identified as Efren Montalla was strangled to death by robbers inside his taxi in Project 6, Quezon City.
Police said Montalla's body was found by residents of Sampaguita Street inside his taxi. Investigators said the killers hit the victim's head with a hard object and his face was covered by contusions.
Found inside the taxi was a wire, which, police said, could have been used by the killers to strangle the victim.
Police data showed that one to two taxi drivers are being robbed or killed by robbers in a month.
The Association of Taxi Operators in Metro Manila, meanwhile, urged the police to intensify its visibility and security measures in the capital region. With reports from Alex Santos and Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News
