DENR gets 2 snakes found in LRT depot
MANILA, Philippines - The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has turned over 2 snakes found in its train depot in Pasay City to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau in Quezon City.
LRTA spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera handed over the 2 snakes Thursday afternoon.
Clearing activity may have disturbed the snakes and caused them to surface, the LRTA said in a statement.
LRTA tracks maintenance officer Ricky Tubongbanua said he was clearing a grassy area in the depot when the snakes appeared.
The agency, however, assured the public that LRT trains remain safe.
"Our clean-up drive is ongoing at the depot in order to get rid of the accumulating scrap materials and garbage as well as to get rid the area of thick grasses," said LRTA officer-in-charge Engr. Emerson Benitez.
He said all trains undergo inspection to ensure the safety and security of passengers.
