QC cops kill 3 suspected carjackers
MANILA - Police on Thursday night killed three suspected members of a carjacking syndicate in a shootout along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Superintendent Chris Mendoza, Quezon City Police District Station 6 commander, said police intercepted the three carjackers on board a stolen Isuzu Crosswind near the Sandiganbayan Building.
Mendoza said the carjackers fired at the policemen, prompting the authorities to fire back. The three were killed during the shootout.
One of the suspected carjackers was identified only as a certain Andrew.
The police officer said checkpoints were set up around Quezon City after the killing of a teenager, who is an alleged runner of the carjacking syndicate.
"Maaring marami nang alam ito kaya pinatay na nila. Sindikato ito ng carnapping," Mendoza told ABS-CBN News.
He said other police units in Quezon City have been put on high alert to arrest more members of the syndicate. -- Report from Doland Castro, ABS-CBN News
