At the height of the bloody encounter inside the United Parañaque Subdivision IV on Friday night, Lilian de Vera stood worried.

Her husband, who lives in the subdivision, was supposed to fetch her in Quiapo, Manila, but had not been answering her calls.

"Nagtaka ako ang tagal niya, hindi naman siya nagtatagal ng ganun eh," she said.

Moments later, her worst fears were confirmed.

Her husband, Alfonso, and seven-year-old daughter Lea, were among the civilians killed in the firefight.

They were riding an Asian utility vehicle to fetch Lilian when it was fired upon allegedly by police Special Action Force operatives.

Alfonso rushed out of the vehicle carrying his wounded daughter, but he was gunned down.

Without her husband and only child, Lilian feels she's lost everything.

"Tahimik kami, masaya kaming pamilya, wala kaming problema. Ang alam ko lang, gusto silang bigyan ng katarungan. 'Yun lang, 'yun lang ang nagpapalakas sa akin ngayon," she said.

Police Officer 1 Jennifer Vinasoy, meanwhile, is concealing the pain caused by the death of her husband and fellow officer, PO1 Nickson Vinasoy.

Nickson, an SAF member, was the only policeman who died in the encounter.

He left behind Jennifer to take care of their three-year-old son.

"Hindi ko ma-ano kung gano kasakit na siya'y nawalay sa amin kasi araw-araw na nga di namin nakakasama," she said.

But like the slain policeman's comrades, his widow said she is proud of her husband.

"Proud pa rin ako kasi at least namatay siya in line of duty," she said. Ryan Chua, ABS-CBN News
