MANILA, Philippines – Two retired policemen were killed in separate shooting incidents in Manila and Quezon City on Sunday night.
The first victim, identified as retired SPO4 Constancio Pitagan, was shot dead by at least six gunmen in his house in Barangay Payatas.
Pitagan's daughter said the suspects first threw rocks at their house to catch their attention.
The suspects, who wore balaclavas and were on board three motorcycles, then strafed Pitagan's house.
Pitagan's wife and children said the victim brought them inside a room to protect them from being shot.
The retired policeman, aware that he was the target of the suspects, then went out of the room to prevent the suspects from entering the house and shooting his family. The suspects then shot him multiple times, causing his death.
Meanwhile, another retired policeman identified as Arnold Rone, was also shot dead in Tondo, Manila.
Rone, 43, was playing mahjong inside a friend's house in Barangay 102 when he was shot at close range in the head and body.
A witness said the gunman wore a white T-shirt and a cap. However, he was not able to describe the assailant's facial features.
Rone's friend, Rommel Yco, said he does not know anyone who would have a motive to kill the retired policeman. – reports from Jacque Manabat, dzMM and Zhander Cayabyab, dzMM
