US embassy keeps eye on Anikow slay probe
MANILA, Philippines – The United States Embassy in Manila on Friday said it is keeping a close eye on the investigation on the death of American George Anikow, who was killed outside an upscale subdivision in Makati City on November 24.
In a statement, the embassy said its representatives attended the arraignment of the 4 suspects charged with Anikow's murder.
The suspects were earlier identified as Juan Alfonso Abastillas, 24; Crispin dela Paz, 28; Osric Cabrera, 27; and Galicano Datu III, 22.
“George’s death is a terrible loss to his family and to the community. He leaves behind three young children, and a grieving widow,” the embassy said.
Anikow was the husband of a diplomat working in the US Embassy.
“He had lived in Manila for less than 100 days, and in that short time he had become a vital member of our Embassy community,” the statement added.
The embassy also expressed confidence that justice will be served in the case.
