MANILA, Philippines -- The body of a man reported missing after fire hit a residential area in Barangay St. Joseph, San Juan City before dawn Tuesday has been recovered, authorities said.
The charred body of Wilfredo Deneros, 56, was found near the restroom of a neighbor's house.
The fire razed at least 500 homes along Mahinhin, Matimyas and Pinaglabanan streets, and left 2,000 families homeless on Christmas day.
Meanwhile, San Juan fire marshal Gilbert Dolot said Franciso Baulete Jr. and his wife, the owners of the house where the fire allegedly started, are still nowhere to be found.
The two are possibly afraid of what the angered residents would say or do to them, Dolot said.
The affected families, meanwhile, are still currently seeking shelter in an evacuation center. -- report from Johnson Manabat, dzMM
