NCRPO to 'tape' guns on Dec. 29
MANILA, Philippines -- The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will start sealing the service firearms of their personnel on December 29, NCRPO Chief Leonardo Espina said.
Espina said the nozzles of police service firearms will be taped two days before the New Year to prevent indiscriminate firing during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
He said police officers caught firing their weapons without authorization on New Year’s Eve may face administrative and criminal charges.
He also said that a penalty of dismissal may also be imposed on erring police officers.
"Lahat ng mahuhuli ay siyempre aarestuhin natin at papatawan ng kaukulang charges, both criminal at administrative. At may dismissal from office din tayo," he told radio dzMM.
The NCRPO chief said that private individuals may also be arrested if caught using their guns for the New Year celebrations.
"'Di lang ito sa pulis kundi kahit sa sinong magpapatutok indiscriminately ng kanilang mga firearms," he said.
Meanwhile, Espina also reminded vendors that only those authorized by the Firearms and Explosives Division of the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be allowed to sell firecrackers.
"Lahat ng magtitinda, dapat may lisensya at permit na naka-display sa kanilang tindahan. Bawal 'yung nagbebenta sa lansangan. Mahigpit kong ipinag-utos na hulihin lahat 'yan," he said.
