MANILA, Philippines -- National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Leonardo Espina on Saturday led the ceremonial taping of policemen's firearms in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.

Espina said sealing the nozzles of police service firearms does not show distrust on their personnel but instead symbolizes their commitment against indiscriminate firing during New Year's eve celebrations

He warned police officers that they may face administrative and criminal charges if caught firing their weapons without authorization on New Year’s Eve.

"I am giving a stern warning to all the metro policemen to observe these implementing policies on use of firearm. Anyone who will violate it will face hard sanctions for sure," he said.

"Also, I remind all chiefs of police and station commanders that if any of their personnel defy the policies set, they will be liable for their subordinates and will be slapped with appropriate charges as well," Espina added.
The NCRPO chief said after the New Year celebrations, they will inspect police service firearms to determine if they fired their guns during the holiday season.

"Pagkatapos po ng New Year, iisa-isahin i-inspect ito para makita natin kung pinaputok o hindi. Kung ipinaputok ito, it should be in line of duty. Malalaman naman natin 'yan eh dahil may operations naman tayong ginagawa," Espina told radio dzMM.

"Sisiguraduhin natin na lahat ng kapulisan natin nasa labas especially during New Year celebrations. We will do everything we could to provide security," he added.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police Chief Mario dela Vega led the taping of the service firearms of Quezon City police personnel in Camp Karingal. -- With reports from Dexter Ganibe and Dennis Datu, dzMM
