Mandaluyong mall fire allegedly sparked by firecrackers
A predawn fire reportedly caused by firecrackers gutted a shopping mall in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday.
Senior Inspector Ferdinand Samson, Mandalyong fire department chief, said the fire at the Market Place shopping mall started on the ground floor around 1:30 a.m.
Samson said that based on initial investigations, the fire started in one of the firecrackers stalls on the mall's ground floor. The fire quickly spread to other products and crept up to the establishment's second floor.
He said a fireman was hurt while the fire was being pacified. The fire was put out past 2 a.m.
The fire official said they will check with the Mandaluyong City government if the mall has secured a permit to sell firecrackers.
Meanwhile, the two-story library of the Montessori de Manila along Tropical Avenue in BF Homes Subdivision in Las Piñas City also caught fire Tuesday night.
Firefighters have yet to determine the cause of the fire. With a report from Jenny Reyes, ABS-CBN News and radio dzMM
