MANILA, Philippines – Two children were killed while another was injured when part of a seawall in Zone 7, Barangay Ayala, Zamboanga City collapsed Tuesday afternoon.

Huge blocks of cement fell on the 3 boys, who were playing below the seawall.

They were immediately brought to a hospital by onlookers but 2 of the victims, a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, were declared dead on arrival.

A 6-year-old boy is currently being treated at a hospital after sustaining wounds on his feet.

The victims' families have appealed to the local government of Zamboanga to fix the years-old seawall to prevent another accident from happening.

Police, meanwhile, said illegal quarrying has become rampant in the area, which may have accelerated erosion. -- Report from RJ Rosalado, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
