Teen kidnap victim in Basilan freed
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines - A teenager kidnapped in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte was freed by his captors in Basilan on Tuesday evening.
Basilan Crisis Management Committee Chair and Vice Governor Al Rasheed Sakalahul confirmed that Donald John Capili was fetched by his nephew in Barangay Erelley, Sumisip at about 6:25 p.m.. As of posting time, they were on their way to Sakalahul's farm in Lamitan City.
Sakalahul revealed that the family of Capili, who had been directly negotiating with the kidnappers, asked for his help in the delivery of the money that will pay for Capili's "board and lodging fee" during captivity.
Sakalahul added the fee was more or less P50,000
Since the vice governor is presently in Manila, he asked his nephew to assist the victim's family.
Sakalahul said Capili and his relatives will spend the night in his farm. He will be presented to Basilan Governor Jum Akbar tomorrow, January 6.
Sakalahul, however, still could not say which group the Capili family negotiated with.
Capili was forcibly taken by a group of armed men from a family-owned gasoline station in Liloy town on August 27, 2009. He was later found to have been turned over to another kidnap-for-ransom group in Basilan.
To date, two more kidnap victims remain in the hands of their captors in Basilan--Michael Tan and Oscar Lu.
Tan and Lu were abducted, along with Marquez Singson, in HiTech Wood Corporation in Maluso town, Basilan on November 10.
Singson's decapitated head was found on December 9. His body has yet to be recovered.
