Gunmen kill Islamic leader's pregnant wife in Zamboanga

MANILA, Philippines – An Islamic leader's pregnant wife died after their house in Zamboanga City was strafed was strafed by unidentified men Tuesday night.

Police identified the fatality as 35-year-old Saddung Sattari. She died of gunshot wounds in different parts of her body.

Sattari is the wife of Imam Hussin, a village Islamic leader, who wounded in the attack. The couple's 2 children and their nephew were also injured.

Police investigators said the family was preparing for dinner when their house in Sitio Kinse, Barangay Upper San Ramon was strafed by armed men on board 2 motorcycles.

Police said witnesses also saw a white van parked a few meters from the victims' house. They said the occupants of the white van could have served as the shooters' lookouts.

Relatives of the victims, meanwhile, told ABS-CBN Zamboanga that the Islamic leader or Imam has no known enemies.

Inspector Hado Edding, Zamboanga City Station 9 police chief, said the attack could have been a retaliation from a clan, whose members were killed by Hussin's relatives. -- Report from Jewel Reyes, ABS-CBN Zamboanga
