The assistant prosecutor of Cebu City was critically wounded in an ambush Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Assistant City Prosecutor Patrick Ian Osorio, 36, was driving his Toyota Revo (GPB-203) on Maria Gochan Street, Barangay Mambaling, around 4 p.m. when two motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed him.
Police Officer 1 Jeric Caballero of the Mambaling police precinct rushed to Osorio and brought the victim to the hospital.
The ambush site was only meters away from the police precinct.
A trisikad driver, who witnessed the shooting, said the gunmen fired four shots at Osorio. He said one of the gunmen even fell from the motorcycle while shooting at the victim.
He said Osorio got out of his car wounded and shouted for help, which prompted him to run for help to the nearby police station.
Police investigators said the ambush could have been related to Osorio's job as assistant prosecutor.
Police said they will study sensitive cases that are currently being handled by the victim.
