30 families flee as clans clash over land in Kidapawan
COTABATO CITY -- Around 30 families fled their homes and are currently staying in an evacuation center in Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City after a firefight erupted between two warring clans in Barangay Patadon, according to Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista.
Evangelista said the conflict between the two families started five years ago.
He said the two warring groups are both claiming a 50-hectare land, which is said to be a part of a reserve of the Central Mindanao Integrated Agricultural Research Center (CMIARC) under the Department of Agriculture.
Local officials, as well as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and International Monitoring Team (IMT), held talks with the feuding groups in a bid to resolve the conflict at the soonest possible time.
Kidapawan City's peace and order council also passed a resolution declaring the area of conflict as a "no firearm zone."
Military troops have been deployed in the area to ensure the security of the residents.
