COTABATO - A manager of a state-owned bank was wounded in a grenade blast at his home in the southern Philippines, the latest in a string of attacks to hit the restive region, police said Monday.
Khurshid Kalabud sustained shrapnel wounds to the body after two men on a motorcycle hurled a grenade into his house in Kidapawan city late Sunday, police chief Superintendent Willy Danggane said.
He was rushed to a hospital, but was later said to be out of danger.
Kalabud is the manager of the local branch of state-run Land Bank of the Philippines, which provides credit facilities for farmers.
Danggane said no motive for the attack has been established, although police suspect militants from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) could be involved.
Peace talks with the MILF have stalled since August, after the rebels launched massive raids across the southern Philippines that left hundreds of thousands displaced.
Manila subsequently launched punitive raids, and the MILF has been stepping up its guerrilla attacks, including grenade attacks and bombings on government targets.
Over 40 people were hurt in explosions blamed on the MILF during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
