13 Maguindanao rebellion suspects released on bail
MANILA, Philippines - Thirteen suspected Maguindanao rebellion followers have been released from detention after posting bail.
The first 3 rebellion suspects released last December 23 were Rommy Mamay, Goldo Ampatuan and Abdula Ampatuan.
Ten more rebellion suspects were released on December 24 and December 31. They were Monie Ibrahim, Umpa Yarya, Koka Managili, Kusayin Sakilan, Ibrahim ABdulkadir, Manding Abdulkadir, Dekay Ulama, Sammy Macabuat, Janil Mindo and Duca Amban.
The Cotabato City court granted the suspects' request to post bail because they are not considered masterminds of the rebellion.
The government claims the rebellion was led by top members of the Ampatuan clan, including former Maguindanao Governor Andal Ampatuan Sr. and sons, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Zaldy Ampatuan and Maguindanao Governor Sajid Ampatuan.
Ampatuan Sr. and the suspended ARMM governor have also been charged with multiple murder for their alleged involvement in the massacre of 57 people in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao province.
Ampatuan Sr.'s 3rd son, Datu Unsay Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr., have been charged with 46 counts of murder for allegedly leading the massacre.
Meanwhile, Judge Melanio Guerrero of Cotabato City Regional Trial Court Branch 15 on January 7 granted the Cotabato City Police Station's motion to transfer 6 remaining rebellion suspects from the city to the Maguindanao provincial jail.
Superintendent Willie Dangane, Cotabato City police chief, that the suspects should not be detained in Cotabato City because the rebellion charges filed against them were committed in Maguindanao province. -- Report from Halima Satol, ABS-CBN Central Mindanao
