MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor a low pressure area (LPA) that could intensify into a tropical depression.

If it does, it will be named “Agaton.”

The LPA was last spotted 200 kilometers southeast of General Santos City, bringing moderate to heavy rains in Mindanao and the Visayas.

At 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, PAGASA issued a rainfall advisory, warning those in Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao City, Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley to brace for persistent showers in the next three hours.

PAGASA warns that there could be floods and landslides in those areas.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon continues to prevail over in Luzon. Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Aurora, and Quezon should expect light showers, while the rest of Luzon will also experience isolated rains. - ANC
