Village chairman gunned down in Pampanga
MANILA - A barangay chairman and former Public Works and Highways regional director died after a gunman on a motorbike shot him in Macabebe, Pampanga on Tuesday.
Police Chief Supt. Raul Petrasanta, Philippine National Police (PNP) regional director, identified the victim as Danilo Manalang, incumbent chairman of Brgy. San Jose.
Manalang was just about to buy food in a canteen in Sto. Rosario in Poblacion when the gunman suddenly fired at him, police said.
The victim sustained wounds from 3 caliber .45 bullets.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of political motive behind the crime, because of the victim's controversial victory during last year's elections.
Manalang allegedly won the elections by only 6 votes. His victory is still under protest at the Commission on Elections (Comelec). -- report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM
