2 killed, 2 hurt in STAR tollway collision
MANILA, Philippines -- Two people were killed while two others were injured in a collision between a car and a trailer truck along the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Malvar, Batangas Wednesday morning.
Authorities said a Mitsubishi vehicle slammed into the back portion of a trailer truck after the truck suddenly tried to swerve towards the center island.
The truck reportedly broke down along the northbound lane of the highway's Kilometer 70, causing truck driver Angelito Cabadu to shift towards the center island.
Upon the collision, the Mitsubishi vehicle caught fire.
Captain Carlito Amerika, chief security of the tollway, identified the fatalities as Dennis Baril and Ringdon Mulintapang.
The injured victims were identified as Resty Hontiveros and Dexter Pagcaliwagan. They were rushed to the Damian Mercado Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the trailer truck, meanwhile, is now detained at the Malvar Police Station. -- Report from Arnell Ozaeta, dzMM
