MANILA, Philippines – The temperature in Baguio City dropped to 9.5 degrees Celsius on Friday, the lowest since the start of the year, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio told ABS-CBNnews.com that the temperature is even lower than the 11?C recorded just last January 15. The record-breaking temperature was recorded between 2 and 6 a.m. today, Aurelio said.
Today's temperature reading, however, is still far from the city's record 6.27?C on January 18, 1961.
Aurelio explained that today's chilly weather, also felt in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon, was due to the presence of the northeast monsoon (amihan) and the cold front.
"Normal ito. May times na malamig sa January, may times na hindi," he said.
He said the country will experience this cool weather until mid-February.
In Metro Manila, temperature dropped below the 20 degrees Celsius-mark on Thursday, PAGASA said.
The nation's capital recorded an 18.8 degrees Celsius temperature on Thursday, January 17.
At 6 a.m. today, Aurelio said a temperature of 22.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
