Probe launched on killing of Quezon mayor's brother
LUCENA CITY, Quezon – An in-depth investigation has been ordered to solve the killing of a 59-year-old brother of the incumbent town mayor of Buenavista, police officials said.
Senior Supterintendent Elmo Francis Sarona, Quezon provincial police chief, ordered the Buenavista police to dig deeper into the murder of Federico Uri, elder brother of Buenavista Mayor Remedios Uri-Rivera.
Sarona said the victim was sitting in front of his house's terrace when a lone gunman entered his compound in Barangay Cadlit and fired shots at him around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Uri died on the spot after sustaining gunshot wounds in the nape and left arm.
Police investigators said the gunman fled on foot.
Investigators have recovered 2 empty shells and a slug from a .45 pistol at the crime scene.
“Katatapos lang niyang makipag-inuman sa kanyang mga kaibigan nang maganap ang pamamaril,” Sarona told ABS-CBN Southern Tagalog.
He said Uri have had many enemies. He said the victim had also been previously involved in a shooting incident.
“Marami rin kasi syang nakaaway. May binaril din siya noon sa may sabungan na hindi naman tinamaan,” he said.
Sarona added that Uri had also been charged with murder for killing someone a few years ago. He said the case had been settled amicably.
Mayor Uri-Rivera, as quoted by Sarona, said local politics had nothing to do with her brother’s death. The Uri family owns a gold mining business in Buenavista, but police said these could not also be the motive for the killing.
