Barangay chairman gunned down in Maguindanao
MANILA, Philippines – A barangay chairman was shot to death by unidentified armed men in Barangay Brar, Datu Angal Midtimbang in Maguindanao at around 2 p.m. Saturday.
The victim, identified as Musanib Buisan Guiamad, was the chairman of Barangay Poblacion and the president of the Association of Barangay Captains of the town of Talitay.
Guiamad’s nephew, Gentukan Buisan, also died in the shooting incident.
According to police reports, Musanib Guiamad and his nephew were on board a tricycle going to his residence in Talitay town after attending a ground-breaking ceremony of a provincial road rehabilitation in Datu Odin Sinsuat.
While traversing the highway, unidentified armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle opened fire at their vehicle using M14 and M16 armalite rifles.
The two victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.
Guiamad had not filed a certificate of candidacy in the upcoming midterm elections.
Police are still conducting in-depth investigations to identify the perpetrators and the motive behind the shooting.
The remains on the victims were brought to their residence in Talitay town, where they will be buried in line with the Muslim tradition.
