MANILA -- The City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) nabbed a delivery van filled with copper ore in Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City.

The copper ore allegedly came from illegal mining activities in the province.

The van was nabbed on its way to Brgy. Dansolihan, where the shipment was to be delivered.

According to CLENRO, the shipment is included in the 'modus operandi' known as 'kamote mining,' wherein copper ore is smuggled and put in sacks together with kamote (sweet potato) to hide them from authorities. These sacks are then transported in motorcycles and 'habal-habal' and delivered to buyers.

The driver of the van was able to escape. His companion, who failed to show proper documents, was left behind.

The van is currently impounded for further investigation.
