Military discovers 2-ha marijuana plantation in Bukidnon

MANILA, Philippines - The military on Saturday announced the discovery of a 2-hectare marijuana plantation in Cabanglasan town, Bukidnon province.

It said members of the Philippine Army's 403rd Infantry Brigade and agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) discovered the marijuana plantation in the mountains of Sitio Lulobong, Barangay Canangaan.

The PDEA said the marijuana plants, now being uprooted from the 2-hectare land, has an estimated street value of P21-million. It said it was the biggest marijuana plantation discovered in Northern Mindanao.

The military, meanwhile, said that the plantation was being maintained by the New People's Army's Front Committee 89.

It said the plantation could have been one of the rebel's sources of income to finance the movement in the province. -- Report from Rod Bolivar, ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao
