State of calamity declared in Northern Samar

Due to the floods and landslides early this month, Northern Samar has been placed under a state of calamity.

23,039 families with 114,836 individuals were displaced in nine municipalities due to floods. The towns include Bobon, Capul, Lavezares, Lope de Vega, Mondragon, Palapag, San Jose, San Roque and Catarman.

A family of six died in Lavezares after being buried alive in a landslide. Two also drowned in Catarman while another two died in Palapag town.

With the province under a state of calamity, assistance to the affected individuals were expected to be hastened as the provincial government can now use its calamity fund.
