MANILA, Philippines – Four men were arrested in Laoag City on Thursday after they were allegedly caught gambling during a wake.

Suspects Andrew Mingayen, Arthur Alburnos, Sherwin dela Cruz and Antonio Quindoy will face charges of illegal gambling.

Seized from the suspects were gambling chips and other gambling paraphernalia, including P2,000 betting money.

The suspects denied the allegations, saying they were just attending the wake.

Laoag police said they have received reports that some criminal groups operate during wakes to avoid detection.
