MANILA, Philippines – The low pressure area (LPA) that weather bureau PAGASA is monitoring may dissipate within the day.

The LPA was spotted 200 kilometers east of Catarman, Eastern Samar at 4 a.m. on Sunday.

According to PAGASA weather forecaster Jori Loiz, there is a small chance that the LPA will intensify into a cyclone because strong winds are breaking its cloud clusters apart.

Because of the LPA, there will be rainshowers over Visayas and parts of Mindanao. The rains will concentrate on Central and Eastern Visayas, so Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Samar should brace for more moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Boracay, which includes Panay Island, should enjoy fairly good weather.

In Mindanao, rains will concentrate on the northern and eastern sections, which includes CARAGA region, Surigao, and Agusan provinces as well as Davao.

In Luzon, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring cool breeze and light passing showers, especially over the eastern section including Cagayan, Aurora and Bicol.

The temperature, meanwhile, is expected to be relatively cool until the second week of February, Loiz said. – with reports from ANC, DZMM
