MANILA – A potential cyclone was spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), a state weather forecaster said Monday.
Samuel Duran, a forecaster from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), told dzMM that a low pressure area (LPA) was spotted some 1,000 kilometers east of the PAR border in the Mindanao region.
Duran said the LPA may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) between Wednesday and Friday this week.
He said the new LPA is expected enhance the northeast monsoon (amihan), which is the cause of the cold weather in parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila.
In its 24-hour weather forecast for Monday, PAGASA said the whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
PAGASA said due to the northeast monsoon, strong to gale force winds is expected to affect the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
