Removal of US navy ship at Tubbataha delayed anew
MANILA, Philippines -- The arrival of the two high-lifting capacity crane ships at the Tubbataha Reef was delayed due to bad weather conditions, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday.
The two crane ships were set to arrive from Singapore on February 1 for the extraction of the USS Guardian from the Tubbataha Reef but the PCG said these will now arrive on Sunday.
PCG said the US Navy-salvage team was able to sail near the USS Guardian early morning on Saturday but was forced to stop its operations at 10 a.m due to bad weather.
The high-lifting crane ships will be used in dismantling the USS Guardian.
The US Navy will break the vessel into pieces to prevent further damage to the World Heritage site. -- Report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
