MANILA, Philippines - Environmental officials have blocked a plan to cut and move more than a hundred trees inside Camp John Hay in Baguio City.

Documents obtained by ABS-CBN News show that Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon Paje issued a cease and desist order on this plan last January 27.

The DENR said Camp John Hay Management must first submit a comprehensive development plan on the project, where more than a hundred trees inside property will be cut and moved to make way for condominiums and golf villas.

Meanwhile, Kabataan party-list Represetative Raymond Platino wants to probe the permit issued to SM Baguio to cut 142 trees for its mall expansion.

The permit was issued in October 2011 and was approved by Paje.

The expansion includes the construction of a 7-level open air retail, dining and entertainment area.

Environment officials said they are ready to face any probe on the matter. Palatino is now asking the DENR to suspend the permit. - ANC
