MANILA, Philippines – The mayor of Carranglan town in Nueva Ecija and his driver were shot by riding-in-tandem gunmen in Barangay Daranay, Guimba, Nueva Ecija on Saturday, police said.

Mayor Restituto Abad was shot on the left side of his body while his driver was shot in the neck and head, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment.

One of the suspects, identified as Berlino Pascual, was arrested by authorities.

A pursuit operation is being conducted to arrest the other suspects.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. -- Report from Robert Mano, dzMM
