Senate approves bill splitting CamSur on 2nd reading
MANILA - The Senate on Tuesday passed on second reading a measure splitting Camarines Sur to create a new province that will be called "Nueva Camarines."
Under the measure, which has been pending since last year, Camarines Sur's 4th district will be separated from the rest of the province.
However, the bill is not likely to be passed on final reading soon because it can only happen three days after approval on second reading. Congress has only one session day left before it goes on break for the election campaign period.
The current Congress will resume sessions briefly in June before it ends.
Rep. Luis Villafuerte Sr., a candidate for governor, has been pushing for the measure, while his son, Gov. Luis Raymond Villafuerte, opposes it.
