About forty construction workers were wounded after two trucks collided along the Maria Clara Lobregat Highway in Barangay Manicahan, east of Zamboanga City on
Saturday afternoon.

No less than five ambulances fetched the victims from the site of the accident.

Ronie Quintos, driver of the truck owned by the Henso Construction Company, said he saw the green truck coming from the opposite direction try to overtake a motorcycle.

Quintos said the truck driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle due to the slippery road caused by the brief rain.

Vicente Garcia, a worker of the AlRaf Construction company, who was on board the green truck, said their driver was speeding ever since they left Barangay Sangali at three in the afternoon.

The truck driver, who was identified as Joseph Molina, was among those rushed to the hospital.

Garcia said, there were about 30 on board the truck, while Quintos said he had about fifteen passengers on board his truck.

Noriel Dioquinio, a resident in the area, said he heared the screeching sound of the AlRaf truck's tires before it collided head on with the other truck.

Dioquinio said that part of the highway is accident-prone. He called on government officials to install proper signage to caution motorists to drive slow.
